Opus Clip and Vizard are the two names that come up when a creator finally refuses to spend Sunday cutting clips. They do the same job the same way: upload or link a long video, the AI finds the moments, and out comes a stack of captioned vertical clips. Both even meter usage identically — one credit per minute of source video.

Which makes this comparison unusually honest work: when two tools match on job and mechanics, the decision collapses to value and trust. We compared the public record on both — ratings, complaints, and above all the arithmetic. (This is a research comparison; our side-by-side field test — same podcast through both — is queued, as promised in our Opus Clip review.)

Read that entry-paid row twice. For fifty cents less, Vizard includes four times the source minutes. Opus Clip's own top consumer tier (Pro, $29) still offers half the credits of Vizard's cheapest paid plan.

Why the credit gap decides it for long-form creators

Run a real content operation through both plans:

  • Weekly 2-hour podcast — ~480 source minutes/month. Vizard Creator: covered, 120 credits to spare. Opus Clip: more than Starter and Pro combined.
  • Weekly 30-minute video — ~120 minutes/month. Fits Opus Clip Starter with margin; barely dents Vizard's 600.
  • Daily short recordings — either works; the decision moves to features.

Because both bill on what goes in, the length of your source footage — not your ambition for clips — sets your real cost. Long-form creators aren't choosing between comparable plans; they're choosing between "covered" and "overage."

What Opus Clip still does better

The value gap doesn't make Opus Clip pointless. Its virality score — each clip stamped with a predicted-performance number — is the feature users mention keeping it for; Vizard has nothing quite like it. Its ecosystem is bigger: more integrations, more templates, AI B-roll on higher tiers, and a larger community trading presets. If your workflow is "generate 30 clips, publish the algorithm's top 5," Opus Clip is built around exactly that loop.

Set against that: the billing and cancellation complaint pattern we documented in the full review — a 22% one-star share on Trustpilot dominated by charge-after-cancel stories — has no equivalent in Vizard's public record. Trust is a feature too.

Who should pick which

Pick Vizard if your source footage is long (podcasts, webinars, streams, coaching calls), you post to several accounts, or you simply want the most minutes per euro. That's most solo marketers running a one-recording-to-a-month-of-content engine.

Pick Opus Clip if your recordings are short, you genuinely use the virality score to choose what gets budget, or you're invested in its ecosystem. Pay monthly, and keep the cancellation guardrails from our review.

Either way: spend both free tiers first. Sixty credits each is enough to run the same recording through both and see which AI understands your content — the only benchmark that matters. Try Vizard here and Opus Clip here.

Provisional verdict, pending the field test: Vizard for value and volume, Opus Clip for scoring and ecosystem — and the tie goes to Vizard on billing trust. The head-to-head with real output samples lands in the newsletter first.

Questions we actually get

Is Vizard better than Opus Clip?

For most long-form creators, yes — on value. Both use the same 1-credit-per-source-minute system, but Vizard includes 600 monthly credits at $14.50 (billed yearly) versus Opus Clip's 150 at $15 (checked Aug 2026), and Vizard's G2 rating (~4.7) edges out Opus Clip's (~4.6). Opus Clip counters with its virality score and a bigger ecosystem. Neither produces publish-ready clips without human review.

How does the credit math compare for a weekly podcast?

A weekly 2-hour podcast consumes about 480 source minutes a month. On Vizard's 600-credit Creator plan that fits with room to spare; on Opus Clip it blows through Starter (150) and Pro (300) combined, forcing overages or short processing. If your source footage is long, the plans aren't really comparable — Vizard simply covers it.

Do Opus Clip and Vizard have free plans?

Both offer 60 free credits a month, and both make the free tier a demo rather than a workflow: watermarked exports and short storage windows (clips expire after about 3 days). The free tiers are best used for one thing — testing which tool's AI picks better moments from your specific content.

Which is better for clip quality?

User reviews describe the same strengths and the same failure mode for both: strong at surfacing hook-worthy moments in talking-head content, unreliable on nuance, comedy and stories that land late. Treat either as a first-draft machine. The quality difference between them is smaller than the difference between reviewed and unreviewed output.
