ActiveCampaign pricing, explained by someone who pays the invoice.
The advertised price is $15 a month. Our advice: ignore it. ActiveCampaign is priced as a ladder that climbs with your contact count, and the honest question isn't what it costs today — it's what it costs at the list size you're building toward. Here's the ladder at 10,000 contacts, the gotchas that move the number, and what the same list costs elsewhere.

The ladder: 1,000 vs 10,000 contacts

| Plan | At 1,000 contacts | At 10,000 contacts | What you're buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $15/mo | $149/mo | 1 user, capped automation actions — the plan the ads quote |
| Plus | $49/mo | $239/mo | Unlimited automation actions — where real automation work starts |
| Pro | $79/mo | $419/mo | 3 users, higher send multiples — the 'serious' tier |
| Enterprise | $145/mo | custom | SSO, custom objects, 5 users |
Annual billing, checked 2026-08. Monthly billing runs roughly 20% higher. Verify on ActiveCampaign's own pricing page — tiers move.
Read the jump, not the row: the same Starter plan is 10× the price at 10,000 contacts, and the plan most people actually need for automation work (Plus) lands at about $239/month — $2,868 a year.
The five things that quietly move the number
1. Every stored contact counts. Your bill tracks the list you hold, not the people you email. Quarterly list hygiene — archiving the unengaged before renewal — is worth real money; it has kept us a tier lower more than once.
2. Starter's automation cap. The $15 plan limits automation actions and seats you alone. The classic lead-magnet + welcome-sequence + tagging setup pushes you toward Plus — which is the ladder in the table above, not the one in the ads.
3. Send limits are multiples of contacts. Higher tiers buy you more sends per contact per month. Newsletter-plus-automations fits comfortably; daily-send cadences need the multiple.
4. Annual-vs-monthly is ±20%. The prices everyone quotes (ours included) are annual. Paying monthly for flexibility costs about a fifth more.
5. The CRM is its own decision. The sales CRM bundle is genuinely good — but if you only need pipelines, Attio does that for free, and unbundling can fund your whole email stack.
The same 10,000 contacts, elsewhere
| Tool | ≈ Cost at 10k | The trade |
|---|---|---|
| ActiveCampaign (Plus) | ≈ $239/mo | The benchmark — deep automation, sales CRM available |
| MailerLite | ≈ $89–129/mo | Clean automation, gentler ladder — most common switch |
| Brevo | from ≈ $39/mo | Charges per email sent, not contacts stored — a different axis entirely |
Checked 2026-08; all annual billing.
The pattern behind the whole page: you're not paying for what you send — you're paying for what you store. Tools that break that axis (Brevo's per-email pricing, MailerLite's gentler curve) are the reason our full challenger comparison exists — and if funnels are your model, Systeme.io holds ~$27/month at 5,000 contacts.
So: stay or go?
Stay if you actively use the depth: branching automations, lead scoring, the sales CRM working as one system. Nothing at challenger prices fully replaces that — it's why ActiveCampaign is still on our own bill.
Go if your reality is a newsletter, a welcome sequence and a couple of tags. At 10,000 contacts that reality costs ~$239/month here and ~$89 elsewhere — a €1,800/year difference that buys a lot of marketing.

Questions we actually get
What does ActiveCampaign really cost at 10,000 contacts?→
On annual billing (checked Aug 2026): about $149/month on Starter, $239/month on Plus, and $419/month on Pro — that's $1,788 to $5,028 per year. Monthly billing runs roughly 20% higher. The advertised '$15/month' is the 1,000-contact Starter price, which most growing lists outrun within a year.
Do unsubscribed contacts count toward my bill?→
Contacts on your list count toward your tier — which is why the single fastest way to cut an ActiveCampaign bill is list hygiene: archive the unengaged and the bounced before your renewal date, not after. We prune quarterly and it has kept us a tier lower more than once.
Is ActiveCampaign worth it at that price?→
If you genuinely use its depth — multi-step automations with branching logic, lead scoring, the sales CRM — yes, it still earns the invoice; that depth is why we pay for it. If you mostly send a newsletter and a welcome sequence, you're paying for an engine you drive in first gear, and the challengers do that job for a fraction.
What would the same list cost elsewhere?→
At roughly 10,000 contacts (checked Aug 2026): MailerLite runs about $89–129/month depending on plan, and Brevo sidesteps the contact ladder entirely by charging per email sent — from around $39/month for 20,000 emails regardless of list size. Our full challenger comparison covers who each one fits.
