Systeme.io vs Kit: business-builder vs audience-builder.

These two get compared constantly, and usually badly — because they're not really competitors. Systeme.io wants to run your whole business: funnels, email, courses, checkout. Kit wants to grow your audience and make writing to it a joy. We use both; here's how to pick the one that matches what you're actually building.

BOTH IN REAL USE · PRICES CHECKED 2026-08 · SCORES PROVISIONAL DURING STRUCTURED TESTING

The short version

  • Building a business (funnels, courses, offers): Systeme.io — more product for radically less money.
  • Building an audience (newsletter, creator work): Kit — the better writing home, with a growth network attached.
  • On a fence: both have real free plans; run your next launch on Systeme.io free and your newsletter on Kit free, and let usage decide.

01

Systeme.io

Best value

Systeme.io's pitch is almost suspicious: funnels, unlimited emails, automations, course hosting, blog, checkout and your own affiliate program — with a free plan that includes nearly all of it and paid plans from $27/month. Having run campaigns on it, the honest verdict is that the pitch mostly holds. It's the closest thing to a complete online business in one login at solo-budget prices, and the built-in affiliate program management deserves special mention: recruiting people to sell your product is a growth channel most tools this cheap simply don't offer.

Pricing (checked 2026-08): free plan with 2,000 contacts, unlimited emails, funnels and a course; paid from $27/month — and still around $27/month at 5,000 contacts, where others charge triple.

What works

  • +The most generous free plan in the industry — a real business fits inside it
  • +Funnels, courses, email and checkout without duct tape between tools
  • +Your own affiliate program, built in, 0% transaction fees

What broke

  • Covers so much ground that no single part is best-in-class
  • Templates and editor feel functional rather than beautiful
  • The email side is capable but won't win against Kit's writing experience
02

Kit

Best for creators

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) picked one job — being the creator's email home — and does it with more polish than anyone at this price. The editor is the nicest place to write a newsletter we've used, deliverability has a strong reputation, and the Creator Network turns other newsletters' recommendations into a genuine growth channel: the kind of built-in distribution that's otherwise only found on beehiiv.

Pricing (checked 2026-08): the free Newsletter plan reaches an unusually high 10,000 subscribers — but with one automation and one sequence, it's a newsletter plan, not a funnel plan. Paid from about $29/month, climbing to roughly $89/month by 5,000 contacts.

What works

  • +The best writing and sending experience in this comparison
  • +Creator Network recommendations grow your list while you sleep
  • +Free to 10,000 subscribers — unmatched runway for a pure newsletter

What broke

  • The paid ladder climbs steeply once you outgrow the free plan
  • No funnel builder, no course hosting — you'll bolt on other tools
  • One automation on free means the classic welcome-sequence + magnet setup already needs a paid plan

How to choose in 30 seconds

You sell products, courses or services through funnels → Systeme.io.

You write a newsletter and monetize the audience → Kit (or beehiiv, compared here — pick Kit for the writing experience, beehiiv for monetization mechanics).

You're price-sensitive above all → Systeme.io, and it's not close.

You want the simplest possible one-person setup → whichever one matches your model — then resist adding the other until it hurts.

Where they fit in the bigger picture: our $67/month solo stack runs email on MailerLite for pure-email simplicity — Systeme.io replaces two or three of those tools at once if funnels are your model, and either tool here slots into the €97 configuration.

Questions we actually get

What's the actual price difference as my list grows?

At roughly 5,000 contacts: Systeme.io's Startup plan is about $27/month versus about $89/month on Kit (checked Aug 2026). Kit's free plan reaches further (10,000 subscribers), but the paid ladder climbs faster once you cross it. If price is the deciding factor, Systeme.io wins and it isn't close.

Which free plan should I start on?

It depends on what you're building first. Kit's free plan holds 10,000 subscribers but caps you at one automation and one sequence — a newsletter, not a funnel. Systeme.io's free plan holds 2,000 contacts but includes unlimited emails, funnels, automations, a course and even your own affiliate program. Building a business? Systeme.io. Building an audience? Kit.

Can I use both?

Some solo operators do exactly that: Kit for the newsletter and audience (its creator network and recommendations drive real subscriber growth), Systeme.io for funnels, courses and checkout. It works — but for most one-person teams we'd rather pick one and keep the stack simple.

Why not ClickFunnels or the other funnel old guard?

Price and scope. The classic funnel suites charge multiples of Systeme.io's price for comparable solo-scale features. Per our challenger rule, they're the reference point here, not the recommendation — the same logic as our HubSpot alternatives comparison.
