How to Find a Winning Product to Test in 30 Minutes (Free Tools, 2026)

Illustration for: How to Find a Winning Product to Test in 30 Minutes (Free Tools, 2026)

Every AI store builder now turns a product link into a finished page in minutes. That moved the hard part. The question is no longer "can I build a store?" but "which product deserves one?" This is the routine we recommend: four free sources, thirty minutes, one rule.

The rule: a product earns a test when it shows up in at least two independent sources. One source is a coincidence. Two is a signal. Nothing is proof until your own test sells.

Minute 0–10: TikTok Creative Center, Top Ads

TikTok shows which ads perform, for free. Go to TikTok Creative Center → Inspiration → Top Ads. Set your region (the Netherlands and other EU countries are available), an industry and a timeframe (last 30 days is a good default), and sort by CTR or 6-second view rate.

  • Log in with a free TikTok for Business account. Without it you see only five ads.
  • Look for products, not brands: gadgets, home, beauty tools, pet products. Write down every product that appears more than once or has a "High budget" label.
  • Watch the first three seconds. If the ad shows the problem and the solution before you would scroll, the product is demo-able. That matters more than the product itself.

Note: many guides still send you to "Top Products". As of September 2026 that page redirects to TikTok's new Creative Suite landing page. Use Top Ads.

Output after ten minutes: five to ten product names.

Minute 10–18: Meta Ad Library

Now check whether anyone keeps paying to sell those products. Open the Meta Ad Library, choose your country, pick All ads (not the political category) and search each product name.

What you are looking for:

  • Several creatives for the same product, pointing to the same store.
  • Running for weeks. Check the "Started running on" date. Nobody keeps a losing ad live for a month.
  • Multiple stores selling the same product: demand is proven, but so is competition. Fine, as long as you can find a better angle.

An advantage for European sellers: for ads shown in the EU, the Ad Library shows an EU transparency section with the targeting the advertiser chose (age, gender, location) and estimated reach by country, age and gender, archived for a year. Outside the EU you only see active ads, without reach. Spend and click-through rates are never shown, so treat "running for weeks with many creatives" as a reason to investigate, not as proof of profit.

Output: your list cut to three to five products with real advertisers behind them.

Minute 18–24: Amazon Movers & Shakers

Amazon's Movers & Shakers lists the biggest sales-rank gains in the last 24 hours, per category. The European stores have their own lists: on amazon.nl it's called In de Lift, and amazon.de has one too.

  • Pick the categories that match your shortlist.
  • Search your products on Best Sellers as well.
  • A product that is on your shortlist and climbing on Amazon now has three independent signals. A product that keeps returning to Movers & Shakers over several days is stronger than a one-day spike.

Last check: is demand growing, flat or seasonal? In Google Trends, set your country and compare up to five terms at once.

  • Past 5 years: peaks at the same time every year mean the product is seasonal. A single spike and a crash means a fad. A steady rise is what you want.
  • Past 12 months: current momentum. Is it climbing right now?
  • Add a reference term (say, "phone case") so you can see the scale. A rising line at a tiny volume is still tiny.

Output after thirty minutes: one or two products with evidence from at least two sources.

The five-point check before you build

Demand is not enough. Run each finalist through this:

  1. Margin: at least 3x landed cost. Landed cost is product plus shipping plus duties. Since 1 July 2026, the EU charges a flat €3 customs duty per item on low-value parcels from outside the EU; include it. A product that costs €8 landed should sell for about €25.
  2. Delivery under ten days. Standard shipping from China can take 15 to 40 days, and slow delivery is the most common reason for refunds and angry reviews. Look for suppliers with EU or local warehouses.
  3. The benefit shows in seconds. If you can't film the problem and the solution in one short clip, your ads will struggle, however good the product.
  4. No brands, no look-alikes. Trademark takedowns end stores overnight.
  5. No regulated or risky categories for a first test: electrical goods, cosmetics, toys, supplements, baby products, and anything fragile, heavy or size-dependent.

If you sell in the EU: the General Product Safety Regulation (in force since 13 December 2024) requires an EU responsible person for every product, and your product page must show the manufacturer's details, a product identifier and picture, and safety warnings in the local language. Ask your supplier about this before you build the page, not after the first customs letter.

From product to test

With one product through the check, the rest goes fast:

  1. Build the page with an AI builder. PagePilot for a quick single page, DropMagic for a whole branded store. The four-way comparison helps you choose.
  2. Make three to five short videos, modelled on the hooks you saw in Top Ads (not copied).
  3. Send traffic for five days: €150 to €300 in ads, or one organic video a day on TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
  4. Judge on numbers: clicks, add-to-carts, cost per purchase. Kill, fix or scale.

Most tested products won't work. That is the routine doing its job: it makes each failed test cheap, so you can afford the next one. The first product that sells is the start of a business.

When paid research tools make sense

Once you test several products a week, the manual routine becomes the bottleneck. Then these are worth a look (prices are from vendors or third parties, checked September 2026, and change often):

  • Sell The Trend: product research plus store tools, from $29.97/month, 14-day trial.
  • Minea: an ad spy across Meta, TikTok and Pinterest, with a limited free tier; paid plans from about $49/month.
  • Kalodata or FastMoss: TikTok Shop sales data (which products, creators and videos sell), both with 7-day trials, from about $46/month. Useful now that TikTok Shop has opened in more EU countries, including the Netherlands.
  • PagePilot's daily winning products: included with PagePilot. It doesn't say where its data comes from, so run its picks through the same four sources.

For your first product, the free routine is enough. More guides on building and promoting a store are on the Sell Online shelf.

Questions we actually get

What is the fastest free way to find a product to sell?→

Combine four free sources and look for overlap: TikTok Creative Center Top Ads, the Meta Ad Library, Amazon Movers & Shakers and Google Trends. A product that appears in two of them has independent evidence of demand. With a timer, the routine in this post takes about 30 minutes.

Does TikTok Creative Center still have Top Products?→

As of September 2026, the Top Products page redirects to TikTok's new Creative Suite landing page, so many older guides are out of date. Top Ads still works, including for the Netherlands and other EU countries. A free TikTok for Business login shows the full list instead of five ads.

How do I know if a product is actually profitable?→

You don't, until you test it. Research only tells you there is demand. A practical rule is to sell at least three times your landed cost (product, shipping and duties), then run a small test of €150 to €300 in ads or a week of daily organic videos and judge on add-to-carts and cost per purchase.

What products should beginners avoid?→

Branded or look-alike products (trademark trouble), fragile, heavy or size-dependent items (returns and damage), and regulated categories such as electrical goods, cosmetics, toys, supplements and anything for babies. In the EU, every product also needs an EU responsible person and proper safety information under the General Product Safety Regulation.

Are paid product research tools worth it?→

Not for your first tests. The free routine finds enough candidates. Paid tools such as Minea, Sell The Trend or Kalodata (for TikTok Shop) earn their price once you test several products a week and the manual routine becomes the bottleneck.
