The quickest tool here to actually draw with: keyboard-driven flowcharts that look finished without styling. If your funnels are simple and you value speed over everything, it wins. The catch is the free plan's cap of 50 board objects per month — roughly two funnel maps — with a watermark on exports.

Watch out: The monthly object cap makes the free plan a demo, not a workspace; budget $10/month if it clicks.

Formal diagramming

The most diagram-ish of the group: swimlanes, data linking, conditional formatting, and exports that look at home in a board deck. The free plan allows three documents of about 60 shapes each — enough for one detailed funnel. Choose it when the map has to sit alongside process diagrams and org charts.

Watch out: Sixty shapes fill up fast on a multi-step funnel; the Individual plan removes the cap but adds a subscription for a job a whiteboard does free.

Unlimited, free forever

Open-source, runs in the browser or as a desktop app, saves to your own Google Drive or hard disk, and never asks for an account or a card. It will draw any funnel of any size for free, forever. The defaults are plain and there is no collaboration layer beyond sharing the file.

Watch out: Nobody has ever been impressed by a draw.io export in a client meeting — style it or use Miro for anything you present.

Free funnel mapping tools: the honest limits

"Free funnel mapping tool" is one of the most searched phrases in this category, and the answer changed in 2025 when Funnelytics ended its free canvas. What "free" buys you today, checked September 2026:

Miro: 3 editable boards, unlimited viewers, funnel templates included. The best free option for a solo marketer.

diagrams.net: unlimited boards, no account, files stay yours. Best if you never present the map to anyone.

Whimsical: 50 board objects per month with watermarked exports — about two maps, then you wait or pay $10.

Lucidchart: 3 documents of ~60 shapes. One detailed funnel, or three simple ones.

FigJam: 3 shared files on Figma's free plan; fine if you already live in Figma, otherwise Miro is the easier pick.

Funnelytics: no free plan — a 7-day trial of Map Pro, then $39/month. Legacy free accounts still work; new ones are not offered.

Funnelytics vs Geru: the paid decision

Once you outgrow a whiteboard, the choice is between the two tools that forecast. They overlap less than their marketing suggests.

How to map a funnel in 20 minutes

1. Start at the sale. Put the purchase (or booked call) on the right edge of the board. Everything else exists to reach it.

2. Work backwards. What did they see immediately before buying? And before that? Sales page, email, lead magnet, ad. One box per step, one arrow per click.

3. One branch per traffic source. Search, social, email and paid enter at different points and convert at different rates. Separate lanes, or the numbers will lie later.

4. Write the numbers you know on the arrows. Even rough ones: 1,000 visitors, 3% opt-in, 20% open, 2% buy. That's a forecast, and it exposes the step that matters.

5. Mark the leak. The arrow with the worst rate is your next week of work. Fix that step before adding another channel.

Mapping is not building

None of these tools host a page or send an email. Once the map is agreed, the funnel gets built in a page-and-email tool — Systeme.io or Kit at the budget end, or the CRM-led stacks in our HubSpot and ActiveCampaign challengers comparison. If you can pay for only one subscription, pay for the builder and draw the map for free.

What is a funnel mapping tool?→

Software for drawing the path a stranger takes to become a customer — traffic source, page, action, email, sale — as a diagram you can share and argue about. The simplest ones are whiteboards with funnel templates (Miro, Whimsical). The specialised ones add forecasting (Geru) or attach real visitor numbers to the drawing (Funnelytics).

Is there a free funnel mapping tool?→

Yes, with limits. Miro's free plan gives you three editable boards; Whimsical caps you at 50 board objects a month; Lucidchart allows three documents of about 60 shapes; FigJam includes three shared files; diagrams.net is free and unlimited. Funnelytics no longer has a free plan — only a 7-day trial on Map Pro ($39/month). All limits checked September 2026.

Funnelytics or Geru?→

Geru is a simulator: you enter traffic, conversion rates and prices and it forecasts profit per funnel, from $37/month. Funnelytics draws, forecasts and — on the Performance plans from $129/month — tracks the real funnel with a script on your site. If you only forecast, Geru is cheaper. If you want the drawing to become the dashboard, Funnelytics is the only option.

Do I need tracking, or is a diagram enough?→

A diagram is enough to plan, to present to a client and to agree on what you're building. Tracking earns its cost once real traffic flows and you need to see where people drop — that's GA4 for free, or Funnelytics Performance ($129/month) if you want the numbers on the map itself. Most solo operations should draw first and buy tracking later.

Is a funnel mapping tool the same as a funnel builder?→

No. Builders (Systeme.io, ClickFunnels, Kit) host the actual pages, checkout and emails. Mapping tools plan and measure the flow through whatever you built. Draw in a mapper, build in a builder — if you can afford only one subscription, pay for the builder.
